Biscuit Decorating

The summer holidays are upon us – we’re half way through week 2! Unfortunately, British summers aren’t always ‘all that’, and there are inevitably going to be days where its grey and over cast outside, or, more likely, there’s a torrential downfall. That’s why we all need to have some back up activities on hand, today I’m sharing biscuit decorating! Quick, easy, probably free (if you have a few cheeky biccies hiding in your cupboard like I do) and most of all, fun.

You Will Need:

  • Biscuits – we always have these lying around, we used Lidl cheapo hobnobs
  • Icing Sugar
  • Food Colouring – for the icing
  • All the Sprinkles!

From here on, it’s all down to imagination!

Luke’s two, so I wasn’t expecting him to produce any masterpieces; having said that, I think he’s done a cracking job! For the smaller children, it’s all about the the process – making a bit of a mess, nibbling the sprinkles and mixing the icing. Who cares what the finished product looks like? Having said that, I had some serious mummy pride for him when he went around showing everyone his biscuits after they’d had a bit of time to chill.

If your little one is a bit older, you could swap out the sprinkles for sweets and get creative – making faces, monsters, animals or objects.

Once you’ve finished getting messy and creative, pop all the biscuits onto a plate or tray and place them in the fridge for an hour or two to set. Once the icing has gone hard, you can then place them inside an air tight container and store them in the fridge.

If you’re feeling extra creative and you’re in the mood to do some baking, check out this really easy shortbread recipe. Luke and I make this together quite often as it’s easy and quick to make; it’s also the perfect recipe to make with children as all the ingredients are really fun to work with – plus, everything is taste safe.
