The slow cooker is a must have gadget in my kitchen. Being able to create delicious sweets and desserts, as well as savoury meals makes it an essential bit of kit that’s easy and budget friendly to use. You don’t need to splash the cash on this kitchen addition if you find yourself without a slow cooker, mine is your bog standard £10 slow cooker from Wilko and has lasted me many years. However, if you have a larger family, there are some great deals available like this Morphy Richards 3.5L for £35-£40 or the huge Morphy Richards 6.5L for £33.

Fudge is a childhood favourite for me. Growing up in Cornwall, fudge was a big thing. Cornish fudge is amazing and I’m lucky to have had a childhood where the best sweets were always available. (I’m only slightly biased!)

Since moving away in my early teens, I haven’t really had fudge. Along with my Cornish home, it all just sort of disappeared and I never really thought about it much. One day, I had a real craving and I had to do something about it.

Imagine how happy this little Cornish lady was when she discovered you could make delicious fudge in only a few hours sing a slow cooker and some very basics ingredients!

Versatile

You can top your fudge off with anything you like! I’ve chosen simple hundreds and thousands for this recipe, which make an excellent Christmas gift! What could be cuter than some fudge, made with love, wrapped up in cellophane  and added to a little treat hamper?

Easy Guide To Making Slow Cooker Fudge. Cook time varies between slow cookers, averaging around 90 - 120 minutes.
Ingredients
  • 500g milk chocolate
  • 1 table spoon of butter
  • 1 table spoon of vanilla essence
  • 1 can of condensed milk
Instructions
  1. Break the chocolate bars up into chunks and put them in the slow cooker first.
  2. Pour the condensed milk over the chocolate - make sure to use a spoon or spatula to get all of it out.
  3. Add the butter and the vanilla essence.
  4. IMPORTANT: Leave the lid OFF , set slow cooker to LOW and using a METAL spoon, stir every 10 - 15 minutes.
  5. Just leave the slow cooker to do it's thing and pop back every 15 minutes to give it a stir. Obviously as time goes by, you will need to put a bit more effort into stirring as the mixture gets quite thick.
  6. You'll know your fudge has had enough time in the slow cooker once a crust like texture has formed on top and the fudge mixture has started to come away from the edges of the slow cooker slightly.
  7. This takes approximately 90 - 120 minutes, depending on the temperature of the "low" setting on your slow cooker.
  8. Once it's done, pour onto a lined baking tray and set in the fridge.
  9. To portion, remove baking paper and cut with a sharp knife, using hot water to help keep the knife clean and create even cuts.
  10. Store in a sealed container in the fridge.
  11. Adding Extras: If you want to add extras to your fudge (try nuts, sprinkles, raisins etc) stir these in with the mixture before you pour it into the baking tray. Alternatively, once you've poured the fudge into the lined baking tray, sprinkle your extras on top then set in the fridge.
