Chocolate Apples Recipe

Autumn is here, which means it’s all about apples! We’re big fans of foraging for apples and other fruits during the autumn months – is there truly anything better than free food? There’s nothing quite like tucking into an autumn pudding that’s cost you practically nothing to make.

My favourite autumn pud has to be apple pie, but today I’m talking about something a little different. Usually my autumn apple recipes require you to peel, prepare and cook apples. My chocolate apple recipe is so easy and fun and doesn’t require you to do anything to the apples, except for maybe give them a wash before use. It’s a great recipe for little helpers to get stuck into as well, especially if you have children aged 6+.

These are really simple and easy to make, making them the perfect rainy afternoon activity. We used Halloween themed sprinkles, but colourful hundreds and thousands look great too.

This was a really fun activity for Luke and I to do on an autumn afternoon. It doesn’t take much preparation and Luke (6) was able to help with most of the chocolate apple recipe, including carefully mixing the chocolate while it melts.

The finished chocolate apples always look amazing, taste great and make a really nice rainy afternoon autumn treat!

Equipment

  • Saucepan
  • Glass Bowl
  • Skewers
  • Scissors/Sharp Knife
  • Baking Paper

Ingredients

  • 3 Apples
  • 1.5 bars Chocolate
  • Sprinkles for decoration

Instructions

  • Start by breaking the chocolate into squares and placing them in the glass bowl. This but is especially fun for the kids; you must taste test the chocolate frequently.

  • Pour water into the saucepan and heat gently. Place the glass bowl on top of the pan so the chocolate starts to melt.

  • While the chocolate is melting, skewer the bottom of your apples. Make sure you don’t stick the skewer all the way through the apple and stab your hand! Cut the skewers with scissors or a knife so the sticks are shorter and the apples are easier to hold.

  • Give the chocolate a stir with a metal spoon and once it’s melted, dunk your apples in, using the spoon to help cover the top and sides of your apple with chocolate.

  • Decorate your apple with sprinkles. We used Halloween themed sprinkles, but colourful hundreds and thousands look great too.

  • Pop your apples on some baking paper and leave them in the fridge to set. Wait a few hours before eating.
