DIY Bullseye Tie Dye Bedding With DYLON

DYLON Dyes have such a huge range of colourful fabric dyes, suitable for both hand dying projects and washing machine dying, that when I was asked if I’d like to work with them on a little project, I was absolutely spoilt for choice.

After much time spent surfing the DYLON website and playing with their fancy colour wheel, I finally decided that ‘Intense Violet’ was the colour for me. Their hand fabric dyes come in sachets with all the instructions printed  clearly on the back. All I needed in order to get dying was a container, some salt, some DYLON fabric dye, warm water and some elastic bands.

I had a go at creating a bullseye tie dye effect and as soon as I saw how gorgeous the finished project was, I knew I had to share it with you. This impressive bed set was so easy to create and took less than an hour from start to finish.

How To Create A Bullseye Dye Effect Using DYLON Dyes

Creating a bullseye tie dyed duvet cover using DYLON hand dye was a really easy, fun and rewarding project that I’d recommend everyone had a go at. The finished bedspread is so gorgeous and I’ve had so many compliments. It’s one of those things that can really brighten up your home and looks seriously impressive, yet it really doesn’t require a lot of work; even the children can get involved with this one.

To create the bullseye tie dye bedspread, you will need:

How To Make A Bullseye Dye Bedspread Using DYLON Dye

Firstly, you will need to find the centre of your fabric. When dying a duvet cover, I suggest finding the middle by folding the duvet in half and then in half again. This way you will find the exact middle and all the guess work is eliminated. It’s also important because, when the bed spread is in use, you want the ‘bullseye’ of the pattern to be in the centre of the bed.

Pinch the middle of the duvet cover and wrap and elastic band as tightly as you can around the fabric. Continue to do this at evenly spaced intervals along the fabric.

Set up your dye bath in a large container by following the directions on the back of your DYLON fabric dye packet. To set up the dye bath, you’ll need your salt, warm water, rubber gloves and measuring jug.

Submerge your bedspread into the DYLON mixture and leave to soak for 45 minutes. Depending on the container you have used, it might be necessary to flip the tie dye bed spread over after 20 minutes or so, to ensure the dye soaks evenly into both sides of the duvet cover.

Once you are satisfied that the dye has soaked into all the fabric, rinse all the dye out of the bedspread well with hot water, then cold water, until the water starts to run clear. Then put the whole thing in the washing machine on a low temperature.

Remove elastic bands and leave to dry!
