I had a bit of a splurge – I know, it’s very naughty – but I really wanted to start expanding my make up collection and skills. I have never been too bothered by religiously wearing make up and I’m quite happy to go long periods of time not wearing any, but there comes a time when it’s just nice to feel a little bit prettier. Since becoming a mum, especially since Luke has reached toddler stage, I’ve really found make up to be a fun little…hobby(?) that I can escape into. Also, lately I have been spending a lot of time on Pinterest looking at hair styles I could (attempt to) achieve.
So, off I popped to Boots, Superdrug, Wilko and Peacocks with my ever helpful make up stylist: James. I got a bit cray cray. Wellll, as cray cray as you can get on a budget.
£3 – Peacocks
I love a good hair accessory and I love a good floral. Now that is officially Spring, I can get away with wearing these. I do have to secure them in place with bobby pins though, because the fabric just slides on my hair.
I may be a bit of a Rimmel fan girl. 80% of the make up I own is Rimmel. I love the quality of it as a high street brand. I think for someone like me, a lover of make up, but not too skilled, these quads are perfect. I love the nutrel colours and on the back of the quad it basically tells you what colour you should apply to each section of the eye lid.
This is my first time buying powder! I’m not sure what to expect from it, but I have heard excellent things about the Rimmel Stay Matte pressed powder. I got it is transparent because, although they do make powders with little hints of rose colours etc, I don’t feel confident enough with that just yet.
New eye liner time; obviously Rimmel. I seriously couldn’t get a decent photo of this! I took these pictures really late at night and I had to do it in the bathroom as that is the room with the best lighting…crap lighting, but the best I have. Anyway, I should have just waited until morning!
To honour my new make up purchases, I bought two more make up brushes. The first one is a Revlon Powder Brush. I have a few Revlon brushes and I do love them so far. I bought the Superdrug’s own brand blending brush because I thought you can’t really go too far wrong, can you? I don’t think it’s likely to shed strands on my face because it’s so short. I use it for the eye shadow, it’s very useful for the crease.
Metal free hair bands! Since discovering these a few years ago, I could never go back to hair bands with metal securing them. I have a lot of very thick hair, so the metal bands always used to snap quite quickly, or they’d never be tight enough. A bit useless really. I love these and I really put them through their paces. Although I am ginger/red head, I do buy black bands because, well it’s better than having hair bands for blonde people, right?
Bobby Pins! I am always losing bobby pins, like every other woman ever. I saw these in Wilko’s and was so happy them came in their own little pot! I needed some more anyway and…the pot! I’ll never lose another bobby pin again… (extremely unlikely)
Not much I can really say about the old cotton pads. I use them for cleansing my face with toner and also for removing nail polish. I just find them easier to use than cotton wool or cotton pleats.
So there you have it – my little haul! When I bought all these home and had it all spread out on my bed, I kept saying to James how I wish I could have vlogged this haul instead! I love haul videos, they’re my favourite type of vlogs to watch, along side “What’s In My Bag?” videos and “Day In The Life”. I’d really love to make some vlogs so maybe that’s something I can work towards in the future.
Let me know if you’re a vlogger and I will definitely have a little nosey on your channel. Comment below and let me kow your favourite make up brands and also let me know if there are any ‘must have’ bits and bobs I should definitely have in my make up bag.
I hope you enjoyed this post, thank you for reading!
