Cleaning Up After Kids and Pets With Gtech

[AD/Gtech kindly gifted me their Gtech Pro K9 in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and photos are my own.]

I hate cleaning. It feels like all I ever seem to do is clean and tidy and yet my home still looks like a bomb site. I’m the parent who’s always on the lookout for time and money saving hacks to make my life that little bit easier. I spend a lot of my time running around after my children and my house rabbits with a broom because it seems that when you’ve got wooden flooring, mess just spreads! Although not a hack, as such, I have stumbled across something that has literally cut my cleaning time in half.

I want to talk to you about the Gtech Pro K9 that was generously sent to me recently. I was on the lookout for something extremely light weight and cordless that would help me out with the housework. On paper, it seemed like the Gtech Pro K9 would be perfect for me; it promised to be effective against pet fur, have good suction, be lightweight and be able to combat all the types of messes my kids make. I was keen to put it to the test, and I really did! I’ve had this for about a month now and I use it every single day.

Gtech Pro K9 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner Review

If you’re a pet owner, you’ll know that your vacuum cleaner has to work a little bit harder than most standard vacuums. That’s why the Gtech Pro K9 was invented. If you’re a parent, you’ll probably find that having kids zooming around also makes it’s fair share of mess on the floor – crumbs, dirt, sand etc. It can be tough to get these bits up, but the Gtech Pro K9 does an amazing job thanks to it’s fantastic design features.

It’s brilliant at getting up pet hair thanks to it’s rotating brush bar.

It’s coming up to summer now which means some our furry friends will start to moult. Luna, our house rabbit, is a Mini Rex. Her fur is incredibly lightweight and soft, which means in the summer when you stroke her, it literally flies off and floats away from her. It’s so light and it gets right up your nose. It also gets on your clothes, all over the floor and all over the sofa. It’s a real nightmare, especially on our hardwood flooring. As you can imagine, using a broom and a dustpan and brush was incredibly frustrating as the fur would just waft away rather than end up in the bin! The Gtech Pro K9 has a brilliant removable rotating brush bar which works well to pick up her light fur, even from our hardwood floors. Once you’ve vacuumed, you can remove the brush and give it a thorough clean, ensuring all the pet hair that has been caught in the brush actually ends up in the bin.

It’s cordless and lightweight, which means your pets can’t nibble at the cables!

Having house rabbits means that you really need to be mindful of what you leave lying around. Luna has a huge enclosure in the living room which she stays in at nighttime, but the rest of the time she’s free to roam around, although wisely she tends to wait until Oscar is in bed! I find the perfect time to whizz the vacuum cleaner around is just after Oscar and Luke have gone to bed. While Luna scurries around trying to find leftover crumbs before me, I can grab the Gtech Pro K9 and try to beat her to it without fearing that she’s going to nibble through the cable. I’ve lost many a cable to my rabbits – there was a nasty incident with Huxley (RIP) and my brand new iPhone headphones. We won’t speak about that though!

The Gtech Pro K9 is really lightweight which means that it is easy to run around the house and doesn’t cause me any back pain. When I’m done, I can just pop it out of reach without having to wind up and cables – easy!

It has AMAZING suction thanks to the unique AirLOC system.

The first thing I noticed when using the Gtech Pro K9 for the first time was that it had brilliant suction. It was able to easily pick up all sorts of debris from the floor without missing a single bit. The AirLOC system that Gtech use helps the vacuum cleaner pick up large bits of debris, as well as really getting to those smaller bits of dust and hair. Pushing the vacuum cleaner forward picks up 90% of the rubbish and then bringing it back towards you collects what’s left over. I’ve been so impressed with the suction on the Pro K9, especially when it comes to things like hay and rabbit bedding. I was worried about how the Pro K9 would cope with Luna’s stray bits of hay but I’ve had no problems with it so far.

The Gtech Pro K9 avoids those horrible ‘dust clouds’ by using hygienic tripled layered bags.

I used to have an old, heavy vacuum cleaner. It was awful and was just the worst for my hardwood floors. I remember paying well over £200 for it a few years ago and being thoroughly disappointed with it even then. One of the worst things about it, besides it’s inability to cope with wooden flooring, was that I had to change filters, empty cylinders and maintain it. Not only is that really gross – especially when you get the dreaded ‘dust cloud’ – but it’s also time consuming. Especially when I couldn’t figure out how to put it back together again.

With the Gtech Pro K9, I don’t have to worry about ANY of that – thank goodness! The cordless vacuum cleaner comes with a triple layered bag which you simply fill up, throw away and replace. The three layers help filter out different grades of dust and debris – there’s even a carbon layer that helps neutralise smells for a fresher clean. The bags are really tough and durable which means they won’t tear or rip when handled and the average household will go through about 10 bags a year. I’ve had mind about 3 weeks now and the bag looks like it’s just over half way full.

It’s really good for multitasking and comes with a scent stick.

It doesn’t matter where you’re using the Gtech Pro K9 – if you need it, there’s an attachment for it. I love how versatile it is! I’ve been using mine for dusting cobwebs from the ceiling, the TV and the top of photo frames. I’ve also used it on the sofa to pick up Luna’s fur as well as using it like normal on the floor. It’s great for cleaning out the car too, which will save us some money as we won’t be paying anyone to do it for us from now on. The scent stick, which is included in the box, leaves a really nice ‘fresh’ smell when you’re vacuuming, rather than that horrible ‘dusty’ sort of smell I have found other vacuums leave behind.

The run time and charge time is brilliant.

The vacuum cleaner has two settings to choose from. On Eco mode, you can vacuum for about 40 minutes. That’s great for me and I get quite a few uses out of it before I need to charge it up again. If I need a bit more power, I can opt for the ‘Max’ setting which is good for stubborn pet hair and kid related messes, however it does run the battery out a lot faster. You’re able to see how much power the battery has left by checking the lights on the side of the main body of the vacuum cleaner. If all 4 are green, you’ve got a full charge, if only 2 are green, you’re halfway there and if you’re down to one and it’s red then you best plug it in to charge! In total it takes 4 hours to fully charge the Gtech Pro K9 and you can check the progress by having a look for those green lights on the side.

Over the past month or so, I have really put the Gtech Pro K9 through it’s paces.

Not only have I been vacuuming up hay – something most vacuum cleaners struggle with – but also millions of mushed up cornflakes thanks to Oscar, dust from TVs, picture frames, bookshelves and more. My other half has been building Luna a brand new enclosure which has involved a lot of sawing through plywood, as a result, there has been a lot of sawdust to tidy up and the Gtech Pro K9 sucked every last bit up without struggling in the slightest. I’ve used it to clean my sofa, window sills and Luna’s old enclosure, as well as doing a daily whizz around each evening.

I’m so impressed with the Gtech Pro K9 and I will definitely be recommending it to people on the lookout for a decent vacuum cleaner.

This little vacuum cleaner has made my life so much easier, I can’t really tell you how much time, energy and actual pain it has saved me. No more sweeping – hurrah! This little beauty is well worth the money, especially if you have children or pets (on in my case – both!). If you’re looking for a powerful, lightweight, cordless effective vacuum cleaner, the Gtech Pro K9 is the one you need!
