The thing about maternity wear is that you’re probably only going to be wearing these clothes for a few months. You’re also going to go through the changes in seasons over your pregnancy, which means you’ll need to buy new clothes to accommodate your growing bump and the change in temperature.

For this reason, a lot of mum’s to be choose to buy a few essentials for the wardrobe, rather than spending those precious pennies on expensive clothes. After all, when you’re expecting a baby, that money can definitely be put towards something more important!

The problem with buying the bare essentials is that they’re not terrible exciting. It’s up to you to find a way to jazz your look up and make a classic mum stripe look a bit more glamorous. Get Your Hair Done

During pregnancy, your hair is thick and luscious, making it a great time to get a hair cut and styled. Everyone knows that a woman getting their hair done differently means they’re making some changes to their life – what’s a bigger change than having a baby? Treating yourself for a trip to the salon can provide some lovely pampering time. You don’t need to go the whole hog and get a style change, it may be beneficial to pop in and have a chat with your hairdresser – they can show you different ways to style your hair which will be flattering as your face changes shape during pregnancy. If you’ve not got the time, money, or don’t just don’t facy a trip to the hair dressers, you could treat yourself to some new hair straighteners or a curling wand instead.

Jewellery

Statement earrings and necklaces are a huge hit with mum’s to be. Accessorising is the key to all good outfits! Some mums prefer to spend their money on nice earrings, necklaces, watches and shoes rather than posh maternity clothes; these are the items that you’ll get more wear out of post pregnancy.

I recently got gifted some beautiful bags and accessories to help me style out my outfits a bit more. Blackbetty offer some seriously great products and huge discounts! Blackbetty are able to do this because fashion brands always have overstocked items – they grab the excess stock and sell it on from 70% – 90% off the normal price. Never pay full price for clothes or accessories again!

Scarves

Scarves can really save an otherwise boring maternity outfit. Scarves can help hide your bump if you’re feeling a bit self concious, but also matching them with your new handbag can make you feel a million bucks again.

Shoes

During pregnancy your feet start to swell; some women even find that their feet go up an entire shoe size! Thanks to pregnancy, you have the perfect excuse to treat yourself to some new shoes. I have found that a new pair of boots were the perfect addition to my maternity outfits – especially when maternity leggings play a huge role in my styling currently!

Ditch The Maternity Clothes

You can’t escape the fact that sometimes maternity clothes are just a bit too basic. No one wants to feel frumpy, especially when your body is going through so many changes both inside and out. Some advice I have been given is to ditch the maternity wear, head to the sale rail and buy some cheap bits in the next size up. I spent ages looking in Primark for maternity clothes, before moving on and buying some on eBay instead. I could have just got some extra big clothes that are on trend instead!

Confidence

The best way to look and feel great in your maternity wear is to ooze confidence – even if that’s not how you’re actually feeling. Wearing a big smile and showing your pride in yourself and your new, amazing pregnancy body can have a huge effect on your over all mood and appearance. People who look confident and happy also often start to believe these feelings!
