7 Reasons To Try Contact Lenses

Not sure whether to try contact lenses? While the idea of putting plastic in your eyes can be daunting for those who’ve never done it, there are many benefits to this alternative form of corrective eyewear. Glasses wearers may find that it’s beneficial to occasionally switch to contact lenses. Below are just some of the reasons to give contact lenses a go.

Improve comfort

Putting a contact lens in your eye for the first time can be challenging and you could end up poking your eye a bit and making it sore. But once the contact lenses are in, you can’t feel them. Modern contact lenses are particularly comfortable. Many people find them a better alternative to glasses  – which can sometimes cause itchiness or soreness (although this tends to be due to not being properly sized and adjusted).

Put an end to fogged up glasses

One certain advantage that contact lenses have over glasses is that they don’t fog up. Many people experience fogged up glasses when wearing a face mask, when going somewhere steamy or when entering a heated building in winter. Contact lenses don’t have this reaction.

Cope better in the rain

Rain can cause glasses to get wet, which can also distort our vision. When you wear contact lenses you don’t have to worry about this. In fact, it’s possible to have a shower or go swimming with contact lenses in. That said, contact lenses may come loose if you’re jumping into a pool or putting your head underwater

See clearly while doing sports

There are many sports in which you’re unable to wear glasses because they can easily fall off or get broken. Examples include boxing, snowboarding, football and hockey. While prescription sports glasses may be an option in some sports, contact lenses tend to be a much more practical option for athletes. If you’re used to taking your glasses off for sports, switching to contact lenses could allow you to see – and, most likely, perform better at your chosen sport.

Experiment with sunglasses

You can’t wear glasses and sunglasses together in most cases. Prescription sunglasses are one solution to this, but they cost more than regular sunglasses and you’ll have to carry them around alongside your regular glasses. When wearing contact lenses, you can wear sunglasses at the same time. This allows you to wear any pair of sunglasses while still being able to see clearly and not having to pay for specialist sunglasses.

Change your eye colour

Using contact lenses, it’s possible to change your eye colour. For example, if you want to try out hazel eyes, you can buy a pair of hazel contact lenses. This can be a fun way to experiment with your look.

Reduce glasses maintenance

Glasses require quite a bit of maintenance. You have to regularly clean the lenses to reduce glare and make sure that you can see properly. The arms can also come loose over time and may need to be occasionally tightened. On top of this, you need to remember to bring your case with you at all times for keeping your glasses safe. Wearing contact lenses can prevent you from having to worry about all this maintenance. It’s particularly useful for those who regularly damage or lose glasses.
