Festival Season

Let’s kick things off with some festivals! Festivals are one of the most exciting events on the summer calendar, with so many varieties to choose from, there’s something for everyone. I love using Skiddle to help me find out about all the festivals that are taking place up and down the country. With so many new and unique festivals being organised every year, Skiddle makes it easy to find the best ones to suit your interests.

So, whatever your interests, there are loads of amazing festivals happening up and down the country that will inspire you with music, crafts, and costumes. Here are just a few of my favourite festivals that are coming up in the UK this year:

  • Isle Of Wight Festival, Thursday 20 – Sunday 23 June, 2024. A pop, rock and indie music festival featuring acts such as The Prodigy, McFLY, Blossoms, Green Day, Keane, and The Streets. This festival takes place over on the Isle Of Wight in Hampshire.
  • WeyFest, Thursday 15 – Sunday 18 August, 2024. A family-friendly blues, rock, and pop festival situated in the Rural Life Centre in Farnham, Surrey. A festival without the mud, plenty of family-friendly activities, 4 stages, and posh loos!
  • Camp Bestival, Thursday 25 – Sunday 28 July, 2024 (Dorset), 15th – 18th August (Shropshire). Camp Bestival is a multi award-winning family festival that returns to Dorset and Shropshire every year. Along with amazing music acts, Camp Bestival is chockablock full of activities the whole family can enjoy together, such as skateboard ramps and lessons, self-portrait paint classes, and cyanotype painting.
  • Restricted Forest Festival, Saturday 22 June, 2024. A budget-friendly festival that 90’s babies will love. This one day festival takes place in a private forest and plays a mixture of 90’s club, dance, and trance music across 4 stages.

Live Music

There’s nothing quite like the thrill of standing in a crowd waiting for your favourite music act to walk onto the stage. If you want to make 2024 your year, stop uhming and ahhing, and take the plunge by booking those tickets! There are so many great live acts playing this year, so start planning the rest of the year around some of your favourite bands. There are loads of amazing artists touring in 2024 that you can add to your “fun things to do this year” bucket list, here are a few of our favourites: Doja Cat, UB40 ft Ali Campbell In The Park, Keane, and Paloma Faith.

Comedy Nights

I love, love, love a good comedy night! If you want to expand your list of fun things to do this year, you can’t dismiss the experience of watching live stand-up comedy. From new stand-up artists playing in intimate venues to some of my favourite comics from TV, a good comedy night always gives me something to look forward to. If you want to make the most of 2024, heading out with your mates to a comedy show is a surefire way to make some lasting memories. Here are just a few of the amazing comedy acts that you can catch in 2024, along with some popular comedy clubs:

  • Katherine Ryan
  • Russel Howard
  • The Big Belly Comedy Club
  • Comedy In Your Eye
  • Laugh Train Home Ft Maisie Adam

Carnival Fun

One of the best fun things to do this year is, of course, attend carnival! The biggest carnival of the year is Notting Hill Carnival. Notting Hill Carnival is a free carnival that takes place on the last bank holiday weekend of August. This year, the carnival takes place in London from 25-26 August 2024. If you want to immerse yourself in this Caribbean-themed celebration, along with around 1 million people, you can expect traditional music, street food, and plenty of dancing. The highlight of the Nottinghill Carnival is the parade, kitted out with entertainment, costumes, and colourful floats, which takes place on Sunday. You may also want to check out the Camden Carnival, and the Carnival Magnifico.

Celebrating & Remembering Your Year

With so many fun things to see and do this year, you’re going to want to get your hands on a few keepsakes to help you remember the good times you’ve had as a family. One of my favourite ways to mark important events and celebrate days out is to sew or iron embroidered patches onto a blanket for my children. Each of my kids has their own blanket and they have a variety of embroidered patches to commemorate important and exciting moments in their lives! If you don’t fancy using a blanket, denim jackets are also a cool idea.

Another way to keep the memories of your year alive is to keep ticket stubs, napkins, and wristbands to frame or use in a scrapbook.

There Are So Many Fun Things To Do This Year

This post only features a tiny handful of events that are taking place in the UK during 2024. There really is something for everyone out there, so if you don’t see anything in this post that takes your fancy, don’t be dissuaded from booking new experiences or trying new things. Instead, consider the type of activities that you do enjoy and search for local events that align with your interests and lifestyle. I have personally been to so many small crafting, sewing, and local artist events that have suited me and my interests really well, so don’t give up just yet!
