How to improve your wedding venue

Anyone running a wedding venue will fully appreciate how competitive the industry is. And, of course, couples hope to tie the knot just once, so have high expectations and want the perfect celebration. Equally, UK couples now have huge choice in terms of where they can get hitched. Since July 2021, for example, this has included marrying outside at approved locations.

But there are things you can do to make your location stand out so you attract more bookings and increase income. These include all the usual marketing tools such as investing in quality imagery showcasing your location at all times of year, a glossy website offering reviews, digital brochures and virtual guided tours. You can also make the most of social media, blogging, newsletters and email.

Think of where the best photo opportunities are, and tell your couples about these spots. Equally, stress the features which make your venue unique, whether that’s its modern elegance or historic appeal. If yours is a luxury wedding venue, emphasise its class and sophistication.

Here are some other things you can do:

Lighting

Perfect lighting heightens the romantic ambience of any wedding. Candles, fairy lights, lanterns and the like are all ideal. And you can add them just about anywhere across your venue.

Inside and out

Make the most of your indoor and open-air areas, so that you offer wonderful weddings all year round. Is there an underused outdoor part of the venue, for example, which could be used for al fresco ceremonies? Since the pandemic, the popularity of marriages under the sky has increased. So maximise the potential of every square foot of your site.

If you have a field, could you offer guests glamping?

Somewhere to prepare

Provide a space where the bride and her bridesmaids or the groom and his posse can get ready. Ideally, this would be roomy and comfortable, with ample mirrors and sockets for hairdryers and phone chargers. Details like this mean you offer your couples the complete package.

Widen your offering

Weddings are becoming increasingly flexible. So, for example, think about offering midweek parties or celebrations lasting two days, say over a weekend. Alternatively, small or micro weddings have become popular since Covid, so consider how you could offer these.

Add some outdoor furniture

Getting furniture spot-on at your wedding venue not only enhances aesthetic appeal but makes for a more memorable occasion. And everyone will be more comfortable generally, outdoors and inside.

When it comes to garden tables, there’s a fair bit to think about, including size, material, how many people you need to accommodate and whether the pieces will remain permanently in place or be stored away and moved regularly.

A teak garden table is always a winner. These items make a powerful statement, while teak is one of the strongest and most durable hardwoods. They also perform well in all weathers.

Teak is known for its sturdiness and ability to withstand exposure to the elements, from humidity to excessive sunlight. So it’s ideal for outdoor environments. It doesn’t crack or splinter, and naturally shrugs off both the effects of the weather and moisture.

In the heart of the trunk of the teak tree, oil content is high. So, unlike other hardwoods, you don’t have to keep oiling and painting it – it’s seriously low-maintenance.

This material is also resistant to insects and other pests – so you can leave it outside with confidence. Apart from anything else, it just looks gorgeous, and, while its colour may change, teak’s natural beauty doesn’t fade over time.

In wedding venues, teak outdoor tables encourage open-air socialising and provide a focal point, and, obviously, somewhere for people to rest glasses, plates and so on. Finally, if the weather allows, open-air dining makes a special occasion even more special.
