Mother’s Day Gift Guide 2018
Mother’s Day is just around the corner now, landing on Sunday 11th March. This year, I have decided to put together a list of great gift ideas with the hope of inspiring anyone looking to buy their other half, mum or grandmother a gift – just to say ‘thank you for everything’.
Mother’s Day Gift Guide 2018
This post contains affiliate links, items marked with an asterisk* have been gifted to me, however all thoughts and opinions are my own.
The Gift Of Me Time
First thing’s first: me time! Any mum will tell how rare it is to get a decent amount of time to themselves. My personal favourite form of ‘me time’ is to run a warm nice bath and enjoy a glass of something cold. I have really enjoyed used Nelson’s Arnicare Bath and Massage balm*, especially while being pregnant, as it really helps to ease the aches and pains that tend to come after a day of chasing the kiddies around.
Whilst in the bath, why not revolutionise the most boring chore of all – shaving? Two minutes on the legs with the Dorco Eve* razor is all it takes. The razor has six blades in total and, the closer the blades, the closer the shave. This bad boy is available as a one off razor, or you can buy the box as a subscription service. Perfect for the upcoming spring and summer months.
Wilko are currently stocking the world’s most amazing scented Yankee Candle I have ever had the pleasure to sniff. If you’ve got a store local to you, pop in and pick up the Yankee Candle Sweet Blueberry Muffin scent – you can’t go wrong with a candle lit bath after all. Don’t blame me if it makes you hungry though!
Time For A Touch Of Glamour
Joan Collins is a glamorous woman. She also has a beauty line to die for. I have absolutely fallen in love with her Timeless Beauty I AM WOMAN perfume. The packaging is classy and elegant and the eau de perfum itself has a deep wood base with wonderful romantic floral scents. The feminine citrus top notes and the sensual musk tone make this perfume ideal for both day and evening wear. I’ve even worn it on the school run a few times. The scent lasts well into the day and I know I’d be made up if someone got me another bottle for Mother’s Day.
Mum’s everywhere deserve a bit of bling. Sometimes I am a fan of big, bold, statement items, but I firmly believe there’s a place for subtly…and I think a lot of other mum’s think this too. When you get stuck in your ‘mum’ uniform, sometimes even the littlest of gifts can make the world of difference. I have fallen in love with these simple, Sapphire Blue crystal earrings by SWAROVSKI. At only £.9.50, these little gems come in a gorgeous jewellery box and would guaranteed to put a smile on a mum’s face.
I’ve been getting into the swing of spring lately and trying to jazz my make up up a little bit. During spring I tend to go a bit crazy for lip sticks and lip glosses. This brings me to the Joan Collins Timeless Beauty Glorious Gloss. This little beauty is super hydrating, dermatologically tested and suitable for sensitive skin. Joan has created some gorgeous colours to choose from; I have been using Pearl, but I also love the look of the Ava and Marina shades.
MUM WHO LOVES BLING?
Diamonds are a girl’s best friend and what better way to surprise your mother than with a beautiful diamond necklace? At a retail price of £418 from James Allen, this exquisite necklace has a diamond encrusted showpiece that is set in 14k white gold. Designed with a trendy and classic look, it can be easily matched with different types of outfits.
Mum With A Sweet Tooth?
Chocolates! Can you really go that far wrong with chocolates? Thornton’s (the kings of posh chocolate boxes, yum!) have put together a Personalised Continental Parcel Box of chocolates at the reduced price of £12.40 (RRP £17.50) especially for mother’s day. Whether you want to personalise the chocolates with a name or a short message, Thornton’s are able to add it to the box sleeve, free of charge.
I have a bit of a sweet tooth and I know I’m not the only mum out there with one. For the pregnant mum (or the prosecco loving mum!), these Sparkling Wine Jelly Belly Jelly Beans* are not only delicious, but also certified OU kosher, vegetarian, and free from gelatine, gluten, fat and dairy. These non-alcoholic sweets make the perfect treat for Mother’s Day, tasting just like the real thing, and even coming in a traditional style plastic prosecco bottle. Perfect for pregnant or breastfeeding mums, these Jelly Beans will take you back to those summery day of sipping prosecco in the garden.
Following on with the foodie theme, I know many a mum who is mad about mugs! If you don’t believe me, you should check out Brummy Mummy Of 2‘s Instagram stories…#MugGoals! I don’t have many nice, ‘grown up’ mugs of my own and I would feel a lot more productive and like I am achieving great things in life if I had this Floral Mum In A Million ceramic mug from Paperchase. Isn’t it gorgeous? Just whatever you do, don’t put it in the microwave!
Get The Creative Juices Flowing
Mums and grandma’s have the best craft skills, don’t they? Luke’s grandma could knit or sew anything he could dream of and it would take her no time at all. I know another mum who has a masters in costume design! Personally, I can crochet some squares and make a mean granny blanket; I’m also getting better and better and sewing by hand.
The Makery at Crafter’s Companion make some gorgeous craft kits that are suitable for crafter’s of all abilities. The kits are presented in a stunning fashion and the packaging is also robust, making them the perfect gift for creative mum’s this Mother’s Day. I have been trying my hand at The Makery Craft Kit – Embroidery Hoop* and The Makery Craft Kit – Purse*. As a ‘newbie’ crafter, I’ve found that the kits come with great step by step instructions, pattern sheets and all the other materials and tools needed to complete the craft project.
Book Worm
I did a bit of research before putting this guide together and it turns out that most of us mums just want an hour of relaxing me time where they can chill out peacefully and read. The problem with being a bit of a book worm when you’re a mum is that you don’t always have to time to get through an entire book in just a few days or weeks. I know this is true for me, as I started reading the book I have just finished (This Shattered World) all the back in 2017. That is why novellas are the way forward!
Author Tony Drury has written a series of short stories based on classic cinema called Novella Nostalgia. The first two books in the series “Lunch with Harry”, which pays tribute to “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” and “Twelve Troubled Jurors” which hints at “Twelve Angry Men” have both received some outstanding reviews. The third book in the series “Forever on Thursdays” is based on the unforgettable British film “Brief Encounter”. Finally, “The Man Who Hated” is the latest edition added to the series and was released last month, and costing a mere £1.99 on Kindle.
Pretty and Personalised
For me, the best gifts always have that little personal touch. I love those presents that you can keep forever. Every time you look at them, or wear them, you’re reminded of your family and of unwavering love. If your mum, partner or grandma is anything like me, I recommend you to check out the amazing range of engraved gifts for her that Gifts Online 4 U offer.
I especially love their range of engraved watches*! They certainly tick (ha!) all my boxes when it comes to the perfect Mother’s Day gift. They’re elegant and stylish, beautiful to look at, fully personalisable, and will remain a meaningful keepsake for many years to come.
Gifts Online 4 U have a huge selection of styles to choose from, and the personalised watches for mums section does not disappoint. My favourite is the white marble personlised watch. This absolute beauty features Novanu London branding within the watch face, a genuine black leather wrist strap, the option to add your own text to the face and up to four lines of engraved message on the back.
When my watch arrived in the post, I fell in love with it instantly and couldn’t recommend this gift enough. Gift wrap options are available should you wish to add that little extra glamour to your Mother’s Day order. The box my watch arrived in was sturdy and elegantly patterned – the face itself was protected within in box with bubble wrap, and of course, the watch was wrapped around a plump black cushion, helping keep everything in place and safe throughout the delivery process.
Hopefully, after reading this, you will have been inspired by some gorgeous gifts that are guaranteed to put a huge smile on someone’s face this Mother’s Day. Don’t forget to also pick up a card – Paperchase has some brilliant cards on sale at the moment to suit any type of mum’s personality.
