Autumn Self-Care Tips: Embracing & Accepting Yourself This Autumn
I love autumn, it’s absolutely my favourite season and I love the symbolism of falling leaves showing us that it’s okay to change and let things go. Autumn is, for me, a time for letting the things that no longer serve you go, and a time for reflection and transformation. It’s also my favourite time of year because I love being cosy and comfortable; in my eyes, it’s a season where your body type is critiqued far less than any of the others – winter is all about party dresses, spring is all about losing weight, and summer seems to be about having the perfect body.
Autumn, for me at least, is about accepting who you are, being comfortable with what you’ve got, and transforming yourself in a way that better serves you. Today we’re going to be talking about how to feel better about yourself during the autumn months, how to accept yourself more, how to use autumn self-care tips to your advantage and how to keep yourself feeling happy and content as the darker days start to creep in.
Self-esteem boosting self-care.
One essential tool that can help elevate your self-esteem this autumn is the mdlondon BLOW hairdryer. As one of my top autumn self-care tips, this one is one that will instantly change your attitude towards the coming months: give yourself a mini autumn transformation. Something as simple as changing your hair, dying it, or learning how to give yourself the best blow dry may help you to overcome self-esteem or confidence issues you may have as we head into the autumn months. It sounds silly, but doing something new or experimenting with a style you’ve always wanted to explore may just set you on the right path this autumn.
Don’t forget to also take extra care with your skin during autumn as well. As the seasons change, it’s important to update your skincare routine to compensate for the colder and harsher weather.
Create basic self-care rituals.
When it comes to autumn self-care tips, I must talk to you about self-care rituals. These are little tasks and actions that you partake in regularly – once, maybe even twice a day. They’re little moments that are designed to make you feel good. Think about the types of rituals you could include in your daily life, such as reading a book, watching the sun set, making time for calming meditation sessions, or taking care of your skin.
Embrace wardrobe freedom.
For me, autumn is all about freedom. One of the best freedoms there is in the modern world is being able to wear what you want without fear of judgment. For many, following fashion trends is a way of life, however as far as my autumn self-care tips go, I want you to forget all about the latest trends for a minute and think about what you feel good wearing. What makes you feel comfortable? What makes you look in the mirror and think “Yeah, I look awesome”? These are the types of outfits you should be embracing this autumn. Whether it’s cosy jumpers, leggings, and boots, or boho dresses, cardigans, and satchel bags – whatever your style, autumn is most certainly the time for you to embrace it.
Start journaling.
Journaling isn’t only on my autumn self-care tips list; it’s on every self-care list or post that I have. The reason being – it’s blooming awesome! Whenever anyone asks me for the best tips for those struggling with confidence, self-esteem, body image, or anything else that is warping their own image of themselves, I immediately tell them to start a journal. I’ve spoken about journaling before, but the main take away that you should take from this post is that writing down your feelings, negative or positive, is extremely cathartic. You don’t have to create a piece of art; don’t feel intimidated by the Pinterest bullet journal community. Instead, simply grab a notebook and write. What made you happy today? What made you sad? Why do you think you feel that way? Getting your thoughts down onto paper is a fantastic way to organise and understand them.
Get out into nature.
Another of my autumn self-care tips that I offer to anyone seeking a little pick-me-up is to get outside into nature. Autumn is my favourite season for exploring and I’m so lucky to live in Hampshire, an area full of stunning autumn walks. Getting outside and heading for a walk, even if it’s only for 10 minutes or so, is a great way to boost your mood and restart your thought processes. When I find myself staring at a blank screen wondering what on earth to write next, I take myself out for a 10 minute walk and look around. I appreciate the scenery, the people I see, the animals, the shops – everything. A little stroll really does help to put the world back into perspective for me, so I recommend you give it a go too.
Practice positive affirmations every morning.
Finally, the last item on my autumn self-care tips is the humble positive affirmation. You’re bound to have heard of these and I’m sure you are skeptical about practicing them, but I promise you this – they work! Start each day with your positive affirmations. Remind yourself that you matter, you’re worthy, and you are uniquely beautiful. Write down things that you love about yourself, or goals that you wish to achieve, and repeat them to yourself every day. Self-love and acceptance can be cultivated through daily affirmations, so even if you don’t think they’ll work for you, they are definitely worth trying – they’re even great for kids who struggle with self-esteem too.
Autumn self-care tips: embracing and accepting yourself.
Remember, autumn is a season of change and transformation, and that includes embracing and accepting yourself just as you are. So, as the leaves fall and the temperature drops, use this time to fall in love with yourself all over again. With a little self-care, a few walks in nature, some wardrobe freedom, and a new hair-do, you can confidently step into this beautiful season, feeling comfortable and fabulous in your own skin.

Thanks for the inspiration! 🙂 I became obsessed with journaling. Last week, I forgot my journal at home, and I was more upset than if I had left my phone behind! 🙂
