Why We Should Be Using Eco Friendly Razors

Why We Should Be Using Eco Friendly Razors

Take a look around your home and you will be shocked at the amount of single use plastic you have. Your bathroom is one of the worst places for this: bottles, tubes, toothbrushes, and so much more. Unfortunately you can’t always switch everything, but there is one thing you can change to make a difference – your razor.

The amount of plastic waste that comes from razors in particular is quite worrying. If you head into any drugstore you’ll see how much plastic is used on disposable razors and the packaging they come in. There are alternative options out there for shaving that will help you to reduce the amount of plastic you use, and they come along with other benefits too! Safety razors are made entirely from metal and can last you a lifetime. I’ve teamed up with The English Shaving Company to give you just a few of the reasons you should make the switch. Keep reading for three reasons to switch to eco friendly razors.

3 Reasons to Switch

Reduced Plastic Use

As I’ve already mentioned, switching to a safety razor can help reduce your plastic use and therefore help to save our planet. This, for me, is a good enough reason to switch completely. Global warming isn’t going anywhere, so we need to step up and do what we can. Disposable razors are one of the most common and problematic items in our landfills, and each disposable razor is adding up to that.

Cost-Effective

Although initially buying a safety razor is more expensive, in the long run it is going to save you money. If you add up how much money you’ve spent over the years on packs of disposable razors the amount would shock you. It can also be easy to fall into marketing ploys that tempt you to try these new and improved razors with added extras that don’t really make a difference! This means you end up buying them more often than you might need to.

When looked after properly, a safety razor can last you a lifetime. The only part that needs to be replaced is the blade once it goes blunt, which aren’t expensive costing as little as £5 for 100 replacement blades. Instead of buying plastic-filled disposable razors monthly, you can instead buy blades to last you years. If saving the planet wasn’t enough of a benefit for you, then the cost benefits definitely should be.

Better Shaving

Despite what big brands might tell you, more blades don’t equal a closer shave. More blades can actually make it harder for you to get the right angle on your shave as well as increasing your chances of cutting your skin. Safety razors have a single blade which makes it easier to control the razor and keep flat against the skin. Also, the less blades that are pulling on your skin, the less irritated they will be. Safety razors do take some getting used to, but once you’ve had some practice your shaving routine will be quicker and more effective than ever.
