Family-Friendly Activities For A Weekend In Manchester 

Looking for the perfect destination to whisk your family away for the weekend? Manchester might not be at the top of your list, but it should be. Although it is nicknamed the Rainy City, the rain can’t ruin your fun when you visit this Northern gem. From fascinating museums to thrilling theme parks, there are so many exciting activities for all ages to uncover in Manchester. 

Manchester is easy enough to reach by train, bus or car so there is no excuse not to visit this beautiful city and enjoy what it has to offer. Once you’ve booked your transport, it’s time to build your itinerary. Here are some worthwhile activities that you definitely need to feature in your family escapades. 

Manchester United Museum and Stadium Tour

Manchester is home to one of the most successful Premier League football teams, so you’re children are in for a treat if they are a Man U fan. The Manchester United Museum and Stadium Tour offers an immersive experience of the club’s rich heritage, famous achievements and most iconic moments. 

It is every Red Devil fan’s dream to walk in the steps of the football legends that have made up the Manchester United team over the years. The Old Trafford Stadium tour allows them to experience this hallowed ground. 

Legoland Discovery 

Children aged between 3 and 10 are guaranteed to enjoy themselves at the Legoland Discovery Centre. Complete with VR experiences, rides and a mini LEGO model of Manchester City, there are oodles of fun just waiting to be had here. 

Children get to visit LEGO MINILAND, an attraction made from 1.5 million bricks, and tour the LEGO Factory to see how the bricks are made. They also get the chance to create their very own special brick and watch some of the latest LEGO mini movies at the 4D cinema. Younger children can get away from the madness and play at the DUPLO village.

Sea Life 

Take your children with you to explore the wonders of the ocean at SEA LIFE Manchester. Walk through the wonderous ocean tunnel to get a good look at sharks, jellyfish, turtles, octopi and many species of exotic fish. 

The kids have the chance to touch a starfish in the interactive rockpool experience or you could go the whole way with a 10-minute deep diving activity. For the little ones who love mythical creatures, take them to the after-hours mermaid experience. 

The Lowry 

The Lowry is one of the most famous landmarks in Manchester and is home to world-class exhibitions. This stunning building houses three theatres and galleries, all with programmes that offer hours of family fun. Settle in to watch all manner of creative performances from the ballet to Julia Donaldson stories.
