I can honestly say that with the year coming to a close in just one month’s time, 2021 has been an absolute rollercoaster from start to finish. On a personal level, 2021 has been a year of soul searching. I am not ashamed to say that I found myself at a complete loss and questioning my role as a mother, girlfriend, sister…even person. Every day was an agonising uphill struggle that I just felt I could no longer dedicate enough energy to. At some point, something broke within me, and I found myself wishing for a way out.
The Year Of Personal Growth
It was at that point I knew that I needed to look deeper within myself and discover exactly what it was that was making me unhappy. Thus began a year of soul searching, therapy, journaling, attending online workshops, and practicing A LOT of mindful exercises.
For a few weeks now, as I have sat down at my desk and thought about my progress – the ups, and the downs – I have affectionately been dubbing 2021 as “The Year Of Personal Growth”.
What Is Personal Growth?
Personal Growth is the act of recongising who you are and continually challenging and developing yourself to become what you consider to ultimately be the ‘best’ version of yourself. Reaching your full potential and thriving in life is something that everyone should aspire to, and yet so often, we find ourselves stuck with outdated beliefs, self-critical thoughts, and unhelpful behavioural patterns.
These negative thoughts and actions impact us daily, and most times, we don’t even realise the extent to which we’re standing in our own way. I was one of those people whose unhelpful and negative beliefs about themself and assumptions about others’ opinions of them, held them back. Yet, a revolutionary change came over me when I started to attend workshops and therapy…Someone was telling me that I was the only one standing in my way and that they were there to support me when I needed to gain some clarity.

If you are similar to the Me of January 2021, the phrase ‘life coaching’ probably gives off some skeptical vibes. I was defensive and the thought of being ‘coached’ on my own life sounded patronising. However, I couldn’t have been more wrong.
