Giveaway: #BabyLove: My Toddler Life
I already thought that Luke was a pretty keen reader, but since he started Year R in September, I have watched his interest in books soar. I am delighted to have a little book worm – just like his mummy! That’s why it’s always amazing when authors of children’s books get in touch with me and ask if Luke and I would like to have a read of their latest stories. Recently, Luke got some happy mail from the post man which contained Corine Dehghanpiseh’s new children’s book – #BabyLove: My Toddler Life.
Luke’s like a kid at Christmas whenever there’s a new book around that he hasn’t read. Once he’d torn open the package, he was keen to start reading!
What’s It About?
#BabyLove: My Toddler Life is a light hearted story focusing on the role Smartphones play in our family lives. It’s extremely likely that your child has seen you playing on your phone, taking pictures, recording memories and sharing your snaps on Facebook and Instagram. Smartphones are now a regular part of childhood.
Corine’s book tells the tale of a little boy having a fun day at home – they both have so much to do! He does counting and colouring, reading and playing, learns new words and makes lots of music. He also sits down for a cuddle and takes selfies with his mummy for all their friends to see.
When his mummy leaves the room, the little boy picks up her phone and starts to take his own pictures. I think those gorgeous selfies children take that are a bit too close and blurry are adorable! The boy takes close up pictures of his eyes, his nose, his face and his mouth. I have many photos like this on my phone. Find me a parent who doesn’t!
The Perfect Teaching Moment
Sometimes as parents we forget that our children learn from watching us and doing as we do. If we are on our phones all the time, leading that busy parenting lifestyle of organising play dates, replying to emails, getting your online ASDA shop done and having the occasional gander at Instagram, then it’s no wonder our children see phones as something fun and interesting to play with. When the boy’s mummy catches him playing with her phone, she sits him down for the perfect teaching moment.
The message in #BabyLove: My Toddler Life is clear. We all love taking pictures and videos of our children to cherish and it’s lovely to sit together and look back at all those photos. It makes a great topic of conversation – to discuss how we grow, how we get teeth, our hair gets longer, we get bigger! But it’s also a stark reminder that the best memories are the ones made when you put your phone down and get busy playing!
What matters most in life is time together filled with love and attention.
#BabyLove: My Toddler Life is charmingly written with great rhymes that sound lovely when read out loud. The font and language used is great for children who are of an independent reading age. Corine has illustrated the book herself and the pictures are simple, colourful and eye catching.
About The Author
Corine Dehghanpishe is an award winning author. My Toddler Life is the second book in her #BabyLove series, after the first instalment, My Social Life. Corine’s inspiration comes from her every day life, and it may not surprise you to hear, but when she’s not busy writing, Corine likes getting out there, have fun and take pictures of her family. There’s no one more qualified to write and illustrate a children’s book about remembering to put the phone down and enjoy life’s moments quite as much as she is. Readers can connect with her on Facebook, Twitter, and Goodreads. To learn more, go to BooksByCorineD.com
