How To Workout From Home: Essential Equipment

Working out from home has so many benefits. It can save you money by cutting down on gym expenses. It can help you to plan your days more efficiently, allowing you to easily fit daily exercise into your routine. And it can even help those struggling with gym anxiety to start getting fit and healthy without worrying about being judged by other gym goers.

Of course, if you do choose to workout from home, you will be forgoing access to all the gym equipment you would usually be able to utilise. Fortunately, it’s possible to create extremely beneficial home workout routines using just a few pieces of essential workout equipment that can be purchased at relatively low prices.

You don’t need to go out and spend hundreds on new workout equipment to make the most out of your exercise sessions. In most cases, Amazon’s Basics range of home workout equipment is recommended – especially if you are new to exercise or working out from home. There’s plenty of essential workout equipment that is low in cost, but still sturdy and safe so it’s definitely worth a look.

For other equipment and essentials, here are a few tried and tested recommendations for you.

Activewear

First thing first, before you start working out from home you’re going to want to get your hands on some good quality activewear. Activewear comes in many different ranges, so think about the type of workout you’re going to be participating in and then pick from the appropriate attire.

A Good Quality Supportive Sports Bra

I would suggest that no matter what exercise you plan to perform at home, you invest in a good quality sports bra. Sports bras are essential items of clothing when it comes to purchasing activewear, therefore they can be quite costly. Fortunately, I have discovered an amazing range of activewear, including this high impact sports bra at an amazing price from activewear experts, Yvette. I personally love the Enfold Zip Front Padded Sports Bra as it is extremely comfortable, very supportive, and quick to wash and dry.

Sturdy Footwear

If you’re planning on working out in your garden or doing some high-impact exercise within your home, you may want to consider purchasing some sturdy footwear. Wearing trainers when working out offers extra support and grip, making your workout routine more comfortable – especially if you’re interested in high-intensity workouts.

Exercise Leggings or Shorts

No matter what type of exercise you want to participate in, you’re going to need to get yourself some high stretch and comfortable workout leggings. Not all leggings are made the same, so look out for ‘squat proof’ leggings that do not appear to be see-through when you squat or bend over. Personally, I prefer to wear exercise shorts or bike shorts when working out from home. These are made from the same material as exercise leggings.

Essential Exercise Equipment

Yoga Mat

Yoga mats aren’t just for yoga! Yoga mats are essential bits of workout kit as they create a soft, grippy base for your workout. Make sure you find a thick, comfortable yoga mat that is supportive as it’s likely that you will be doing plenty of floor work when exercising from home. Warm up exercises and cool down stretches are also much more comfortable when you have a cushioned yoga mat beneath you.

Dumbbells

If you’re interested in strength training, you need to get your hands on some dumbbells. You can purchase dumbbells with fixed weights, or you can buy dumbbells that allow you to adjust the weight of each bar. Make sure you only lift a weight that you’re comfortable with, especially when working out at home. Another tip is to make sure that you choose dumbbells with plenty of grip, as once your hands get sweaty, you’re going to want to ensure you still have a good grip on your weights.

Resistance Bands

Another home workout essential: resistance bands! These are great for so many exercises and really help to add some extra intensity to your usual movements. Resistance bands are extremely versatile and cheap to buy, plus they take up very little space making them great additions to your home gym. Resistance bands can be purchased in packs or individually, with each different band having a different level of resistance.

How To Workout From Home: Essential Equipment

If you’re planning to create your own workout routine from home, or you’re interested in following along with exercise videos from the comfort of your own living room, these bits of equipment are absolutely essential. Once you are more comfortable with your workout routine and exercising at home, you may wish to expand your workout equipment, however, for total beginners, the above essentials are a fantastic starting point.

Some lovely workout bras you have, I seem to have accumulated a lot of workout gear but not enough bras. I have quite a selection of weights and a mat, but I do need to get a resistance band x
