MOMA Food Review: Barista Oat Drink & Porridge Pots

Recently I have found out that I’m intolerant to many more foods than I originally realised. It may seem strange to not necessarily notice that you are reacting badly to certain foods, but if you’ve never tried to cut them out of your diet, you have no baseline with which to make a comparison. After feeling absolutely rotten for years and starting to notice how awful I felt after eating certain foods, I came to realise that I had to make a few changes to my diet. One of these was to consume less gluten, the other was to cut out milk from my diet upon discovering I am lactose intolerant.

After realising that I was lactose intolerant, I began my search for a milk drink alternative that not only tasted great but would also work to serve me in my never-ending coffee addiction. I could give up milk, sure, but there was no way I could give up coffee!

It was around that time that I was contacted by the folks at MOMA, The Craft Oat Co. Their mission is to craft the tastiest foods and drinks using the finest quality wholegrain British oats. With their delicious, flavoured porridge pots – for those quick and easy breakfasts on the go – coupled with their range of oat drinks, I couldn’t resist taking them up on their offer to sample a few of their popular products.

So, if you’re looking to make some dietary changes and you’re searching for oat drinks, vegan alternatives, or gluten-free products, this is the MOMA food review for you.

MOMA Food Review: The Barista Oat Drink

The first product in this MOMA food review is the award-winning MOMA Barista Oat Drink. This oat drink is a barista-friendly alternative to dairy milk and, as such, is a coffee lover’s dream. There are so many things I loved about the MOMA Barista Oat Drink, so let’s get started.

The MOMA Barista Oat Drink is ideal for coffee lovers.

First and foremost, the people at MOMA have developed this delicious oat drink with coffee lovers in mind. Whether you’re looking to stock up your independent coffee shop, or you’re looking for a way to jazz up your coffees at home, the award-winning Barista oat drink has been crafted especially for use in hot beverages such as coffee and hot chocolate.

How does the MOMA Barista Oat Drink taste?

The most important aspect of this MOMA food review is, of course, the taste. MOMA claims that the Barista oat drink is fully foamable and doesn’t split when frothed up. I decided to put this to the test creating a few lattes and some foamy cappuccinos using my trusty milk frother.  I loved how easily the Barista oat milk came together to create a smooth foam that tasted creamy and luxurious. It also added to the delicious flavour of my favourite coffee drink, the humble latte, that I feared I’d never be able to fully enjoy again once cutting out dairy. Having tried a few other alternatives along the way, I was sceptical about whether the MOMA Barista oat drink would hold, as some oat drinks seem to split and make for an unpleasant drinking experience. Thankfully, MOMA kept true to their promise, and I was able to once again enjoy my favourite coffee drink.

MOMA Barista Oat Drink is full of all the good stuff too.

MOMA make their products (bar the Barista Organic Oat drink) using the finest quality British oats, which I love! Once harvested and added to their unique recipe, the oat drink is then fortified with calcium, iodine, and plenty of vitamins to ensure that in every cuppa, you’re still getting all the good stuff.

The Barista oat drink from MOMA is made in the UK, contains no added sugar, and is vegan-friendly.

With dedication and love, MOMA has crafted a delicious oat drink that’s ideal for hot beverages, as well as breakfast cereal.

I wanted to look into what made the MOMA Barista oat drink so tasty, so I did a little research into the product for this MOMA food review. The people at MOMA really seem to know their stuff and have spent over 2 years, trialling around 250 recipes, to create the delicious tasting, award-winning oat drink.

The MOMA Barista oat drink can be used anywhere that you would use normal cow’s milk to make hot beverages. This means that you don’t have to be a coffee snob like me to enjoy it, the oat drink also tastes great in tea and hot chocolate. Additionally, the creamy taste of the Barista oat drink also means that it’s a tasty dairy alternative to enjoy your breakfast cereal with.

My overall opinion on the MOMA Barista Oat Drink

Overall, I really enjoyed the MOMA Barista oat drink and I’m extremely likely to buy more in the future. The oat drink adds a delicious creamy texture that makes you feel as though you’re enjoying a luxury coffee from a boutique independent coffee store, even if you’re simply drinking a quick cuppa at home.

If you like your coffee ‘milky’ like I do, don’t be alarmed when your drink doesn’t seem to change colour as you’d expect. When I first used this product, I kept adding more and more of the oat drink, expecting that ‘milky’ colour to appear, but it didn’t. However, when I tasted the drink, I realised that I had achieved a similar flavour to the one I’d desired, despite not noticing the same stark colour change.

What you need to know:

The MOMA Barista Oat Drink is available in all good supermarkets. It’s also available to purchase through the MOMA website, which offers you a bargain 12 carton supply for only £12.60* – making each carton only £2.10.

Cartons can be stored at room temperature before opening. Once opened, the oat drink can be kept in the fridge for up to 5 days.

MOMA Food Review: MOMA Porridge Pots

If you’re looking for a quick breakfast that you can grab on-the-go, or even tuck into at your desk in the morning, MOMA Porridge Pots could be the ideal breakfast choice for you! I’ve been eating these like there’s no tomorrow because they’re so incredibly tasty, so let me tell you a little more about them.

MOMA Porridge Pots are gluten-free

So, let’s start with the biggy: MOMA porridge pots are gluten-free. Now, although porridge oats do not contain gluten normally, many people suffering from intolerance or coeliac disease tend to avoid eating oats because they can often become contaminated with other cereals that do contain gluten. Thankfully, MOMA makes a definite promise to its customers that their delicious porridge pots are gluten-free.

MOMA Porridge Pots are great for those looking for a quick and easy breakfast.

I am a very busy mum of two. My mornings consist of herding up two boys, rounding up the dogs, making lunches, sorting out uniforms, and generally shouting at two tiny humans to put their shoes on roughly 56 times. Trust me when I say, it doesn’t matter how early I get up, I am always pressed for time!

The MOMA porridge pots have been an absolute godsend for me over the past few weeks. What makes them so good, I hear you ask? Well, I absolutely love how quick and easy they are to prepare!

To make up a delicious pot of porridge, all you need to do is add some hot water, pop the foil lid back on, and wait for 3 – 5 minutes. The inside of the porridge pot shows a fill line, and the instructions state that you should simply peel the foil lid back, add the water, and then re-cover the pot in order for the water to seep into the oats.

MOMA Food Review: Porridge Pot Flavours

Let’s talk about the flavours of these MOMA porridge pots because they are simply divine.

My favourite flavour has to be the Golden Syrup Porridge Pot. There is something so classic about the slight sweetness of golden syrup, mixed with the nuttiness of porridge oats. To treat us to such a delicious taste bud experience, MOMA combines their signature blend of British jumbo oats with golden syrup, to bring us a hearty flavour similar to flapjack.

Another flavour that really stood out to me was the Cranberry and Raisin porridge pot. I loved the creaminess of the porridge oats, combined with the juiciness of the whole cranberries and raisins. This flavour is perhaps better suited to those who don’t appreciate the sweetness of golden syrup quite as much as me. The fruit adds a twang of sweetness to the porridge pots, but it’s certainly a more natural flavour that’s well balanced with the oats.

There are other flavours in the MOMA porridge pot range that I am dying to try. I’m especially going to keep my eye out for the Almond Butter and Salted Caramel flavour, as well as the Coconut and Chia Seed porridge pot.

Are the MOMA porridge pots vegan-friendly?

Well, yes and no. If you’re looking for a vegan breakfast, I suggest you check the labels on the porridge pots carefully. Some of the flavours are indeed vegan-friendly (Coconut & Chia Seed, Almond Butter & Salted Caramel, and Cranberry & Raisin). However, as far as I can see, the others are not suitable for vegans.

My overall thoughts on the MOMA Porridge Pots

I really, truly loved these little pots of magic. They are so tasty, so quick to make, and so easy to grab on the go. I like that in order to make your porridge, you simply need to add hot water and wait for a few minutes. This means that they’re a great choice for people who need to grab something to go when they’re on their way to work or to study as they can simply add some water to the pot once they get to the destination.

These MOMA porridge pots also make great snacks, and they have certainly kept me full for a few hours after eating. Overall, I do think these porridge pots are a great idea and good value for money.
