Considerations if you are struggling to conceive

Once you have decided you are going to have a baby, getting pregnant can seem exciting, but also stressful at the same time. On face value, getting pregnant seems like an easy task, but in actual fact, it’s not as easy as you may think. Naturally, there are various factors which can go against you, making the process difficult and time-consuming.

If you find yourself struggling, know you are not going through this alone. It happens to a lot of people, and naturally, it can be an emotional and often overwhelming experience. If you’ve been trying to conceive without success, it can be helpful to step back and consider a range of lifestyle, medical and emotional factors that may play a role, such as visiting an IVF clinic or adjusting your diet. 

To help give you some support if you are struggling, we have put together a brief guide on considerations if you are struggling to conceive. Keep reading for three tips that may help you speed up the process. 

Lifestyle factors 

Your lifestyle may be having an effect on your success without you even realising it. Many everyday lifestyle habits can influence fertility. While these factors may not always be the sole cause of difficulty conceiving, making positive changes can support overall reproductive health. Changes you can make include improving your diet – are you eating enough fruit and vegetables? Getting enough sleep – are you getting the recommended 7-9 hours a day? Trying to maintain a healthy weight and cutting out any negative habits, such as smoking or drinking alcohol. 

Timing and tracking ovulation

At school they don’t teach you how important tracking your ovulation is when getting pregnant. It can be extremely helpful to learn about your menstrual cycle and identifiying when you are ovulaiting, to increase the changes of getting pregnant. Ovulation typically occurs around the middle of the menstrual cycle, but this can vary between individuals. If you go to your local supermarket or pharmacy, they will sell ovulations test which you can buy so you can test yourself so you know when you are ovulating

Fertility treatments 

If you have been trying for a long time but not having any success, getting external help may be a good route for you. There are various fertility treatments out there which you can use to help you conceive. Each treatment comes with its own considerations such as the costs and how successful it is, but by arranging a meeting with a professional, they can speak through all the options so you can make an educated decision on which one is best for you. Remember everyones circumstances are different, so don’t be afraid to explore multiple options before making a decision on the best way to get prengnat and start your family
