Why is Reading so Important for Children?

Reading helps children to make sense of the world. They can develop their comprehension skills, learn about new topics as well as explore different ideas and mindsets. If you’ve ever attempted home schooling, you will know how difficult it can be but nevertheless, it’s a must if you want your child to excel. Reading is one that parents are encouraged to work on especially and here are some more reasons as to why.

Keeps The Brain Active

The brain is a vital organ and the control centre of the body. Just like any other, it must be taken care of and that is something that we can do through regular exercise. Reading is one of those things that you can do. It exercises core thinking skills like problem solving and creative thinking as books take readers through twists and turns, encouraging them to formulate their own ideas as to what will happen next.

Reading Can Be Exciting

It can also be fun. Many children like reading for leisure. The books provide an unrivalled experience as they can have the opportunity to build their own understanding and image of how scenes are set.

Improved Knowledge

Children are able to simultaneously learn new things whilst reading. As mentioned earlier, this could be on a range of topics and the different ideas that people share.

Better Communication Skills

Children are also able to expand their vocabulary which helps them to clearly communicate how they feel and their ideas.

Improved Academic Performance

Children that read can do better at school with improved knowledge, paired with greater comprehension and strengthened thinking skills. This is also proven and seen time and time again in the academic results that they achieve when they start reading.
