Shredding for the Wedding + Freeletics Subscription Giveaway

*Collaborative post, all thoughts and stories are my own.

With only one year to go until the wedding, it’s time for me to start getting into shape! As usual, my fitness journey has had its ups and downs and, inevitably, it has fizzled out.

I struggle so hard with staying motivated for an extended amount of time. I can often manage a month or two of clean eating and regular exercise, but after that, I tend to just give up. I think it’s a combination of expecting too much in the way of results (and not getting what I expected) and giving into the ‘treat yo’self’ mentality too often.

Shredding for the wedding.

My wedding dress currently fits me fine, but I have been assured that if I lose the weight, it can be taken in by up to 4 dress sizes. I decided to buy a dress that fits me perfectly as I didn’t want the stress and pressure of having to try and squeeze into a dress as the wedding drew nearer. I mean, what would have happened if I bought a dress in the ideal size I’d want to be this time next year, and then when November 2021 rolled around, I couldn’t fit into it? That would have just been absolutely mortifying, humiliating and soul destroying. It definitely wouldn’t have made me feel like a princess on my big day AND I’d have to shell out the cost for a new wedding dress – one that I might not love as much as the first. To me, that just sounds like an absolute nightmare, and it’s not as if planning a wedding isn’t stressful enough!

My fitness and health history.

Over the past two years, I’ve lost 2 stone in total and then gained it all back again… with interest. I’ve done homework outs, running, yoga, diets, and everything else you can think of. I even attempted vegetarian keto, but quickly discovered that was a very expensive and impractical diet to be on.

However,  now I have 363 days to go until I put my wedding dress on and walk down the aisle, it’s time for me to start really committing myself to a health and fitness routine that I can stick to.

I have previously tried to give myself accountability by creating a fitness centred Instagram account, @raygetsfiit. It worked well, actually, and I loved the support from the fitness community on Instagram. It doesn’t matter how far along your fitness journey you are, there are always people there to comment on your images and give you great advice, support and just a general pick me up when things get tough. I’m definitely going to rekindle the IG account, although there are only so many “I’m back!” posts a girl can upload!

Accountability.

So accountability is one of my main issues when it comes to losing weight. I am rubbish at keeping myself in check. My biggest problem is that I start a new diet and exercise plan, and I always make it too challenging to stick to. I go too hard, too soon, and then I run out of energy and commitment. What I need is a plan that I can stick to, work around my home life, and one that is tailored to me. I also need something that works with my level of fitness and adjusts training based on my performance.

Freeletics Workout App.

I have recently found out about the Freeletics app, and I decided I would give it a go. Freeletics is a workout app that takes basic information, such as your weight, activity level and your main fitness goals and then turns all that into a recommended workout regime.

You can choose your exercise preferences, such as home workouts or running, and as well as your coach recommendation, you can also explore other training journeys. My recommended program is the 12 Weeks Calorie Burn, which focuses on getting your body moving, losing fat and boosting the metabolism. The program, as the title suggests, is pretty heavily focused on cardio and can be used either with or without equipment. There are also other training journeys available for me to try, including shorter programs such as the 6 Weeks Fit For Life routine.

What I like about the Freeletics Workout App.

What I like about the app is, because it’s a paid for workout program, I’m definitely going to stick to it! I know that I’m going to get a good quality workout that hits all areas of my body, boosts my energy levels and fights the fat. Sticking a free workout video on YouTube on the telly is great, but without the accountability and customisation, it just doesn’t do it for me.

The fact that Freeletics takes your performance during training into consideration and adjusts the exercise routine accordingly is so clever and it’s just like having your very own, but much cheaper, personal trainer.

The app is such good value for money, offering either training and nutrition, or simply training on it’s own over 3 different payment periods. I’ve teamed up Freeletics to offer 3 lucky winners a 3-month trial of the Freeletics app, worth £49.99 each.

Below is some more information on what you can expect from the app.
