Why Wall Art Décor Matters in Interior Design

Wall art décor is often treated as an afterthought in interior design.  This may be due to the fact that it is usually the last thing thought about after painting the walls, furniture type, and where to place the furniture.  Sometimes, people don’t even bother with it.  However, they could be missing out if they don’t consider it.

Wall Art Décor Benefits

Choosing the right wall art décor for your home could potentially gain you some great design benefits.

  • Provides an instant color palette: Choosing a color palette for a room can be a daunting task, if you’re not sure of the colors you want.  However, if you incorporate a wall art décor piece early, you can center your colors around the piece.
  • Wall art décor gives the room a focal point: According to experts, one of the most basic rules of home décor is to incorporate a focal point.  A focal point is a piece that draws your guest in and gives them an idea of what to expect.  Remember to take measurements into consideration when choosing a piece.  You don’t want the furniture to dwarf your focal point.
  • Provides Texture: Not all wall art décor is created equal and that is why it is important to bring in different types of mediums in order to bring a sense of texture into your space.  For example, you can invest in sculptures or shadow boxes.  Extra bits of texture will add in visual weight to your room.
  • Your room will appear “finished”: This makes sense as too many bare walls can make a room feel like the decorator just gave up right in the middle of decorating.  Some experts even believe that wall art décor should be planned out first in order to figure out a plan to decorate the rest of the room.

If you are having trouble figuring out what kinds of wall art décor to incorporate in your home, there are resources out there to help you make a decision.  Other important things to remember when putting everything together are measurements of furniture, colors, how the piece makes you feel, and the overall mood you want in the space.  Don’t make the mistake of buying a piece of wall art décor that fills you with dread or sadness, unless that’s the mood you are going for in your space.
