Why we want to move home next year.

I can’t wait for us to move house next year! I’ve mentioned recently that we are planning on moving next February, or as soon as possible after our tenancy agreement ends in February.
There are lots of reasons for us wanting to move home.
Firstly, we need somewhere bigger! Obviously now that we have two kids, there’s significantly more clutter and children’s toys littered around. We’ve got ample storage space, but we’re starting to find we’ve got too much stuff, even after we’ve checked to see if it “sparks joy” or not. I mentioned recently that we saved up for our first family holiday, so we took the opportunity to raise some funds by selling or unwanted items. Even though we sold lots of things, we still have bits and bobs piling up all over the place. It would be great to have an extra bedroom, which we could use as an “adult” space. Imagine a room free of imposing noisy plastic toys – bliss!
That third bedroom could potentially become a home office and music room.
We know that the kids will eventually want their own rooms, so having a three bedroomed house is necessary. But until that time, we are planning on setting up an area for all of Mikey’s guitars and music paraphernalia as well as turning the spare room into a home office for me. It would be the best thing ever to have my own space with a desk I can use and a proper supportive office chair. If you don’t know, I suffer from chronic back pain, so having a proper area to work in will be really beneficial for me. I’m really looking forward to having an area I know I can get motivated in as well.
I don’t know why, but I get the feeling our time here is coming to an end anyway.
Our landlord increased our rent at the beginning of the year which is what influenced our decision to check around the local area for other properties we could get for the same price. The estate agent also bought the landlord around on the most recent property inspection which probably doesn’t bode well for us. We’re expecting that come December or January, just before our tenancy renewal, we’ll be asked to leave, if not before then. Obviously I don’t know any of this for sure, but we’ve both got that niggling feeling. Good thing we’re emotionally prepared to leave! The properties in our area that we have looked at so far are also much nicer, it’ll be nice to move into a house rather than living in another flat.
We are desperate to have a garden.
I’ve spoken about my dream home so many times on my blog and also about my dream garden. Luke’s never lived anywhere except flats, so it’ll be a totally new and exciting experience for him. It will also make me feel so happy seeing my two boys playing in the garden together and making the most of being outdoors. I can’t wait to get loads of fun outdoor toys! But also it’ll be great for our house bunnies to have somewhere nice to run about and eat some fresh grass. The area we are looking to move into has lots of countryside around it as well, which will be fantastic for weekend walks and for when the boys grow older and want to explore the woods by themselves.
These plans have been set in motion, which means it’s time to start saving money.
Since we’ve just paid for our family summer holiday and our family trip to Germany over the Easter holidays, it’s time to save up all our pennies. We need to save up for a deposit and our estate agents are guaranteed to try knocking off a fair chunk of money from our current deposit. But besides paying for a new deposit, admin fees and any damage, we’re also going to be saving up to enlist the help of moving vans. When we moved into our current flat, we moved everything with a Nissan Micra! As you can imagine, it was a lot of hard work and there were a lot of trips back and forth between the two properties.
When we move house in 2020, we’d ideally love to be able to hire out some help and look into local removal companies to help get everything done in as little time as possible. This is especially important when we’ve got two kids to entertain as well! I’ve already started looking into removal companies and found the removals London looks like it could be a great match for us.
We also need to look into making sure we get as much of our deposit back as possible, so we’ll need to get the flat professionally cleaned. We are looking at getting a carpet cleaning estimate and an estimate for cleaning the oven too, this should help maximise our security deposit return.
