AnySharp Knife Sharpener Review

In our quest to save money, a few years ago Mikey and I thought it was about time we focused more on home cooking, rather than buying convenience foods. Obviously as well as saving you tonnes of money, there are also loads of health benefits that come with cooking from scratch. Cooking our meals at home and meal planning every week has enabled us to learn new recipes, work out the cost of our meals per portion and help keep our weekly food shop to a minimum. It’s safe to say that we’ll never go back to eating “easy” meals again.
However there is one issue that comes with home cooking and that is keeping your knives in good condition.
Over the years, we’ve gone through three different knife sharpeners.
We’ve even just sacked off an entire set of knives and bought a brand new set. When you’re constantly using your knives, cutting through tough veggies etc, they do tend to get blunt rather quickly. Nothing is more frustrating than a blunt knife, especially when you’re just trying to cooking up a quick and simple recipe for the kids tea!
I was sent the AnySharp Pro Knife Sharpener* to try out in the kitchen.
It claims to banish blunt knives in seconds and restore a blades sharpness without the user having to possess any knife sharpening skills. There are a couple of colours to choose from, which is is great because I’m a big fan of colourful and matching utensils/kitchenware. I chose the ‘oil slick’ design which I must say delivers on its appearance and looks exactly as it did in the photo online.
Quick Sharpening
The AnySharp instruction booklet says that the optimum angel for sharpening knifes is 20 degrees – and that is what the Pro Knife Sharpener is already set to. This means that sharpening your knives is as easy drawing the blades through the sharpener only 3 or 4 times. It seems this claim is true! We had some knives that were in serious need of some TLC and the AnySharp Pro Knife Sharpener sorted them out in seconds. With 3 or 4 draws through the sharpener and a quick wipe to remove any flakes of steel, the knives were good to go.
Sharpens hardened and serrated knives.
If like me you’ve had a collection of knife sharpeners before, you’ll know that they don’t always do a good job and sometimes they just don’t work at all. The AnySharp Pro Knife Sharpener is suitable for use on hardened knives as well as serrated knives, such as bread knives and hunting knives. Have you ever tried cutting through a loaf of fresh bread with a blunt knife? It is impossible!
One of my favourite features in the suction grip base which means that it can be clamped onto any surface.
The suction grip is a brilliant feature as not only does it make using the sharpener safer in my opinion, but it also means thanks to it’s small size, it can be suction clamped onto tiled wall surface. This is perfect for us as we store our knives on two magnetic strips – now we can store our knife sharpener above them in an easy to grab place. It’s also small enough to be tucked inside the kitchen drawers as well.
Overall thoughts.
I really love the small size of the AnySharp Pro Knife Sharpener; it’s just so handy to throw into your drawers or suction onto the kitchen tiling. It’s brilliant that something so small can be so effective on such a variety of knives. I’d definitely recommend the AnySharp Pro Knife Sharpener if you’re on the lookout for a space saving bit of kitchen kit that delivers on it’s promise. The sharpener is available from Amazon.co.uk* and prices start at £7.99.

My mum once gave me a sharpening stick for my knives but it terrifies me to use! I haven’t seen this product (or heard of it) but it sounds ideal for me. x

Great that it can sharpen serrated knives too. It’s a running joke in my family that every Christmas my Dad buys me a knife sharpener; I know what I’ll get him for Father’s Day now haha
