5 Dreamy Campervan and Motorhome Holidays in the UK

*Collaborative Post.

When I was really young, my dad owned a bright red VW campervan called Ermintrude. Yup, that’s right, it was a campervan named after a colourful cow from The Magic Roundabout. We had it for quite a while and I remember it wasn’t always in the best shape. The beige leather seats were absolutely the worst things in the world to sit on during summer when you were a little girl wearing skirts and dresses – the burning sensation on the backs of my legs still haunts me to this day.

Thankfully, campervans and motorhomes have definitely moved on since the early 90’s and you can now get your hands on some seriously luxurious vehicles. Although the absolute dream for both myself and my partner is to own our very own campervan that’s fully kitted out with all the essentials, they’re not exactly the cheapest vehicles on the market to buy. The good news for us is that you can now very easily hire a luxurious campervan instead of outright buying one, which means you can still take full advantage of those dreamy campervan and motorhome holidays without breaking the bank.

Hiring a campervan or a motorhome opens up a huge world of adventures, both for romantic weeks away touring the UK with your partner, or heading out to explore the country with your family. Renting out a campervan or motorhome also happens to be quick and easy, plus it has always amazed me just how stunning they can be inside.

So with that in mind, here’s a list of my top dreamy campervan and motorhome holidays within the UK. These are destinations that I would absolutely love to tour with my partner and with my kids some day and would be perfect for a hired campervan or motorhome.

1 Cornwall

So I may be completely biased as I grew up in Cornwall, but there’s no place in the UK that’s quite like it. For amazing food, gorgeous sandy beaches and beautiful local wildlife, you just can’t beat it. Cornwall is home to bountiful scenic trails, rich heritage sites and hundreds of hidden treasures just waiting to be found. It’s the perfect place to tour with your partner or kids, I definitely recommend you visit for at least 7 days so you can make the most of all the beautiful sights.

2 The Lake District

Home to Beatrix Potter and some of the most stunning landscapes you’ll find in the UK, the Lake District is a definite ‘must see’ if you’re planning a campervan or motorhome holiday. There’s more to see here than the enchanting lakes – The Lake District is a treasure trove waiting to be explored. Mountains, bustling communities, quaint villages, sandy beaches so much more can be found in England’s largest national park. Those who are seeking a little more adventure will love the Lakes.

3 Yorkshire

You can’t mention the Lake District without mentioning Yorkshire too. I last visited Yorkshire when I was in my early teens and I distinctly remember climbing up a waterfall, going caving (when I was around 9 I climbed up a waterfall in a cave), scaling a mountain and soaking in some gorgeous scenery. Lovingly referred to as “God’s Country” by its residents, Yorkshire is home to amazing wildlife, jaw dropping scenery and, some say, the best food in Britain.

4 Scotland

We were actually meant to visit Scotland this year, but thanks to COVID-19, we’re not going anywhere. But that’s okay because it means that when we go next year, we’ll have had more time to plan our route and have some more money saved up for splurging. Scotland is home to The North Coast 500 – a 516 mile long road trip route that takes you through white sandy beaches, rugged mountains and fairytale scenes. With over 500 things to see and do on the tour, Scotland is a definite campervan and motorhome holiday for lovers of the great outdoors!

5 Wales

A big selling point for any holiday for me is castles! I love a good heritage site and Wales just so happens to be home to the oldest and the best castles in the UK. Game Of Thrones fans will want to visit Cardiff Castle for all those medieval vibes, plus Wales is well known for it’s fantastic trails and bike parks. Taking a campervan or motorhome holiday in Wales is definitely one for the adventure seekers and I can’t wait to tour around the Welsh countryside with my other half as soon as we are able.

Those are my top 5 dreamy locations for a campervan and motorhome holiday within the UK. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of beautiful locations around the UK (Dorset is another favourite of mine!) that would be perfect for touring around with your own, or hired, campervan, so don’t limit yourself just to these suggestions. What are your favourite campervan or motorhome holiday destinations within the UK? I’d love you to share them with me in the comments.
