Rainy Day Activities With the Family

Collaborative post.

Those gloriously sunny days of summer (well, the few that we had…) are behind us now. Looking forward, it’s all about sinking into the autumn season and enjoying all that it has to offer. While there’ll hopefully be those beautiful, blue-sky days when the temperature is just right, it’s also guaranteed that we’re going to have our fair share of rainy days. This is the UK, after all! But this doesn’t have to be such a problem if we don’t let it be a problem. Instead of bemoaning the fact that our options are limited, we should come up with fun things to do despite the weather. Below, we take a look at a few such activities that you may want to consider.

Film Days

The problem with sunshine is that we all think we should head outside to soak up the fine weather. But sometimes, we just don’t want to. When the rain is falling, you’ll have the perfect opportunity to gather the kids together and do nothing but enjoy the privilege of being inside. Grab some snacks, pick out a few family-friendly films, and settle in for a day on the couch as one loving clan.

Cookies and Board Games

Autumn is all about eating those comfort foods and enjoying the quieter things in life. Next time that it’s lashing with rain, why not consider combining a few autumn activities and having a day that everyone will enjoy? Baking cookies or bread, or making soup, will provide a delicious lunch for everyone, and then, after that, you can look at playing a few fun board games. It’s the perfect way to stay mentally engaged and have some fun when the outdoors just doesn’t look all that inviting.

Getting Creative

Most of us just wait to be entertained, by whatever means necessary. We can head out, switch on the TV, or browse the web. But sometimes, it’s more fun to create things ourselves. If you’re looking for a fun activity to do indoors that’ll get everyone involved with the fun, then consider putting on a play, hosting a karaoke session, or making a film. The latter is easier than you think, especially if you have a new smartphone. Come up with a story, shoot it with the camera, and then learn how to use iMovie on Mac so you can edit into a standalone film. It’ll be fun while you’re doing it, but also for many years to come.

Braving the Weather

One of the best things about rainy weather is returning home after having been outside for the day. When it’s blowing a gale, and the rain is falling, it’s a good time to get a little culture under your belt. Head to an art gallery or museum, and learn a thing or two as a family while also having fun. When you return home, get yourself into comfortable clothes and make a few cups of hot chocolate for everyone. You and your family will feel super cosy.
